Affirm the Principle that if a Law is Unjust, Our Duty is Resistance!

When: 1pm on the day of the Supreme Court ruling on SB1070

Where: Arizona State Building in Downtown Tucson, corner of Congress and Granada

Tucson, Arizona – June 15, 2012 – On the heels of the Supreme Court decision on SB1070, a broad coalition representing various members of the Tucson community is calling on southern Arizonans to stand together in defiance of the law and other racist policies and practices of which it is a part.  The court’s expected decision is not definitive and we call on others to stand strong and to stand in solidarity with their neighbors.

From youth to labor to faith-based organizations, our commitment to social, economic, and political justice commands us to act in defiance of this and any other law that violates basic human rights. We act on the principle that if a law is unjust, our duty is RESISTANCE!

Speakers from the faith, labor, social services, and political sectors along with impacted community members and an Arizona ACLU representative will address the impacts of SB1070 being implemented for the sectors/communities of which they are a part.  In addition, speakers will provide ways to resist the law and its intent through daily practices and political strategies.

A community rally in opposition to SB1070 will be held at 4:30pm on the day of, and the day following, the Court’s decision.  The rally will be held at the Arizona State Building in Downtown Tucson, corner of Congress and Granada.
