For 17 years, members of the La Coalicion de Derechos Humanos held weekly community vigils at El Tiradito Shrine to honors the thousands of men, women and children who have died and/or have disappeared in their journey across the US-Mexican Border. Derechos Humanos organized its final vigil May, 2017. The YWCA’s Promotoras Rompiendo Cadenas, a movement of Latina activists working to raise awareness of gender violence and issues that impact Tucson’s immigrant community, has since taken the initiative to continue the important work of coordinating the community vigils the first Thursday of every month from 7:00- 7:30pm at El Tiradito Shrine (420 S. Main Ave.). Join them together in solidarity to honor the lives of immigrants who have died or disappeared in the border.
